Community Build (Tree Bed Guards)

Join us for a community build series dedicated to building tree bed guards for neighborhood trees in Brooklyn. Tree beds are vital for urban environments, and guards provide protection for tree roots to flourish in the city.

Saturday, March 30 from 11am-3pm Tree Guard Build Workshop #1 at Futureworks NYC Makerspace

Saturday, April 13 from 11am-3pm Tree Guard Build Workshop #2 at Futureworks NYC Makerspace

*Sign up for either (or both) classes where you will be trained in a variety of tools including drills, miter saws, palm sanders, and shop safety. This introductory class is open to all levels, including beginners.

After the build sessions we invite you to also join in on the install day on Saturday May 4th in Crown Heights, Brooklyn with a happy hour at Super Power bar to follow!

Accessibility

Do you have a low scent tolerance? We ask that our participants refrain from using extreme scents, though cannot guarantee the workshop space will be scent free. Please know that sawdust is present in the shop and we have masks available upon request.

Do you use ASL? We currently don’t have translation available, and would love to work with you about how you can access our workshops.

Pre-Requisites

  • Age 18+

  • No woodworking experience necessary

COVID-19 Protocols

Your safety is our highest priority, so we have put safety protocols in place for all of our in-person workshops to keep everyone safe. Those protocols are:

  • All instructors, assistants, and participants will be required to show proof of vaccinations. Masks are optional.

  • Everyone should follow recommended safety precautions, such as coughing into your elbow and refraining from touching their face.

  • All of the tools, equipment, door handles, cabinet and drawer handles, etc. that are touched will be disinfected both before and after the workshop.
