New Orleans Community Build
Dykes With Drills is proud to partner with The Recycle Challenge for their second annual parade and festival in 2023!
So what is the Recycle Challenge Parade and Festival? The Recycle Challenge addresses a serious global need to reduce waste, and transform waste into viable products or vibrant works of art. The annual event intertwines culture and collaboration with paying homage to historical connections. Artists will be on site to demonstrate both on location and virtually, ways that trash can become anything and proceeds from the event will go to support "Whose Magazine: A Youth Publication".
“Our group has introduced a fun, and educational way to showcase the circular economy model,” states organizer & Founder, Madera E. Rogers-Henry. “We are generating opportunities for partnerships with volunteers, and non-profits for youth and adults with special needs thereby, providing valuable learning experiences."
These experiences rely solely on working with unwanted trash such as plastic, paper, fibers and etc. The Recycle Challenge have begun over the past few years, to craft costumes, to lampshades, to even create throws with a heart.
With the assistance of Dykes With Drills members and volunteers, The Recycle Challenge will collectively extend the life cycles of unwanted rubbish that would ultimately end up in landfills. Let's take this recycling theme further and invigorate the spirits and celebrate the skills of our volunteers.
An important aspect we've incorporated is gifting back to non-profits a percentage of any sales assists us with sales of VIP Tickets

ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY BUILD EVENT
Join us on November 20 to learn some basic woodworking skills while we build two vendor stalls made out of vintage doors and one vendor booth made out of recycled pallets and adorned with plants to make a green wall around the vendor booth for the festival. The build event will take place from 11am-5pm at Beanlandia. We have broken the day up into three 3 hour shifts so we know how many volunteers we expect to have throughout the day but all volunteers are welcome to come early or stay and help after their shift. The more, the merrier!
