About the Instructor
Carrie is an artist and woodworker currently residing in Chicago, IL. She has a passion for wood in functional form, as well as its use in art and loves using reclaimed wood and other materials when making. After 25 years of refinishing and upcycling furniture as a hobby, Carrie decided to attend Chicago School of Woodworking to learn how to make furniture. This program fueled her passion for creating with wood. She has been making one-off furniture and other functional items for the last 5 years and teaching basic woodworking and furniture making classes, with a focus on using reclaimed materials. Even in Carrie’s art, wood tends to be the focus. She has been creating pyrography art for the last 8 years and has recently started dabbling in powercarving.

Wire tip wood burner -You will need a woodburner to participate in the class. You have the option of adding a woodburner to your ticket or purchasing one on your own. Wire tip burners range in price from $50-$400 dollars. While more expensive burners may have some extra features and come with more tips, it is not necessary to purchase an expensive burner, especially if you are just starting out. This is the wire tip burner we recommend, as it is the one the instructor uses. Questions related to purchasing a woodburner can be sent to programs@dykeswithdrills.com
tape (any kind)
a small piece of sandpaper (any grit sandpaper, a used piece of sandpaper is fine)
colored ink pen (optional)
