Virtual Makers: Woven Wall Hanging (From Loom to Room)

Join sisters, Amanda and Jessie Kritt, for this fun and interactive virtual workshop to learn woodworking and weaving skills. In this special two part workshop, you will learn how to build a loom and weave a tapestry using the loom you make. This workshop will give you all of the tools to become a weaver and create any size loom you will need in the future. In part one, Amanda will teach you basic woodworking skills to create a peg loom. In part two, Jessie will teach you all of the basic weaving stitches you need to make a woven tapestry.

About the Instructors

Jessie and Amanda are crafty sisters living in Brooklyn and Chicago. They are passionate about creating handmade products and building community around crafting. Throughout the pandemic Jessie and Amanda have been able to stay connected with each other and friends through weekly virtual crafting circles and are excited to bring their love of creating to the Dykes with Drills Community. Jessie is a fiber artist who specializes in weaving, macrame, and crochet. Check her out on instagram at @the.weekend.weaver ! NOTE: This is a two day class. Participation in both classes is required .

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: To have your materials kit shipped to you, you must register by March 26, 2021.

  • No woodworking experience necessary

NOTE: We need at least 6 participants to run this class. If we do not get at least 6 participants, the class may be postponed or cancelled. You will be notified a week before the class if the class is postponed or cancelled.

Workshop Kit ($20 value) Includes:

  • 3 wood dowels

  • 2 packs of wooden pegs

  • 2 - 1x1x12 wood pieces

  • weaving needle

  • warp thread

  • various colors of yarn

Your project materials kits will be shipped a week prior to the workshop.

Required Tools

Certain tools are required to participate in the virtual workshop. We have provided a list of tools needed for the workshop. If you have any questions or need suggestions for purchasing these items, email programs@dykeswithdrills.com.

  • Ruler or measuring tape

  • Drill

  • 1/2” pilot hole drill bit

  • 1/4” pilot hole drill bit

  • Hammer

  • Pencil

  • Sharp scissors

  • Clamp (6” or larger)

  • Wood glue (optional)
